Helping People Thrive

In FY22 we lent a helping hand to those in need and celebrated the diversity of our communities.

Habitat for Humanity

We partnered with Habitat for Humanity to make homes warmer, dryer and safer.

In AMI’s first year of partnership with Habitat for Humanity New Zealand, we have proudly been involved with some amazing initiatives to make homes warmer, dryer and safer, and provide a greater awareness of Habitat and the work that they do in Aotearoa.

Through our AMI ‘Peg’ campaign, we raised and donated a total of $150,000 to Habitat. The donation equated to 4 kilometres of fully lined curtains and went to a range of initiatives like critical home repairs to make homes watertight and safe, along with healthy homes initiatives.

We have some exciting initiatives in store for year two, including the launch of a platform which will help more of our IAG team members sign up to volunteering opportunities with Habitat.

Matariki ki runga! | Celebrating Matariki!

We celebrated Te Hararei Tūmatanui o Te Kāhui o Matariki.

With the first-ever Indigenous Public Holiday, Te Hararei Tūmatanui o Te Kāhui o Matariki, in Aotearoa this year, our Komiti Whakahaere Māori organised a range of virtual and in-person events to acknowledge Te Mātahi o te Tau (Māori New Year), and educate our people on the significance of this unique marker to Māori.

The first pre-dawn karakia event on the roof-top of the NZI Centre enabled our people to be immersed in Tikanga Māori, and for us all to come together as a wider IAG whānau. We valued the opportunity for reflection and remembrance, to celebrate the present and look forward to the year ahead.

Festivities also included some Kapa Haka performances, the opportunity to Kaitahi (share food together), learn Waiata Māori and engage in Mātauranga Māori across various educational webinars.

This is one of the ways our Komiti has been bringing He Rautaki Māori to life since it was launched just over a year ago. The mahi (work) to date includes finalising our roadmap of initiatives to deliver the outcomes of embracing Te Ao Māori, fostering Māori leadership, supporting Māori business, and becoming a leading supplier to Māori.

AMI Driver Reviver

Our AMI Driver Reviver rest stops help drivers to stay safe on the roads over long weekends.

Over the past year we’ve held eight events across the country where drivers are encouraged to rest and visit the activities onsite to learn more about how to curb the effects of driver fatigue, particularly while on long journeys. Over the eight events, we engaged with over 3000 people and provided them with complementary snacks and drinks from an AMI BBQ trailer.

Each site is chosen due to several contributing factors such as being near a main city or holiday destination, high traffic volume and having no cafes or shops within a 15km radius. The team are out and about predominately at the beginning and end of a long weekend as that’s when traffic volumes are at their peak.

Our biggest event was for the Easter period, where we engaged with over 2,250 people at rest stops at Tasman SH6, Uretiti on SH1 north, in Central Otago, Coromandel and at the Hurunui River rest area.

DV Free Tick

We received the Domestic Violence Free Tick for another two years, acknowledging the steps we’ve taken to create a domestic violence-free workplace.

Over the past few years, we updated our Domestic Violence Policy and Workplace Safety and Security Plan and implemented quarterly first responder peer support sessions.

Our reaccreditation has been a collective effort across various teams and over the past year 64 of our NZ People Leaders have participated in DV Free domestic violence training. The training equips our people leaders with the knowledge to become aware of domestic violence issues in their team.

We are on track to meet our goal of over 75% of our leaders participating in NZ DV Free training in the next two years.

First Foundation sponsorship

Through our NZI brand we continue to provide financial and career support to First Foundation scholars, as they journey through their tertiary education.

We’re currently supporting four First Foundation interns, with Roman Tamatoa announced as our newest NZI Austin Hemmings Memorial Scholarship recipient earlier this year.  He’s in his last year at St Pauls High School and will be doing his placement with NZI this summer – we look forward to hearing more about his journey with IAG over the next few years.

Former scholarship recipient, Te Atatu Harmer Matairangi (Ata), has completed her bachelor's degree and obtained a permanent position with IAG as the new Graduate, Business planning and Performance.

Other support

We became the first company in New Zealand to be awarded a level four FlexReady certification, recognising the range of options we offer employees such as flexible hours, job sharing, secondments, and career breaks.

We kicked off a new Women at IAG Enterprise Network Group, designed to bring together NZ based women at all stages of their career to connect, share ideas and support personal and career development.

We introduced new parental leave benefits in a gender-neutral package that aims to support new parents to balance their careers with caring responsibilities, this included providing 14 weeks of paid leave at full pay for the primary caregiver.

We have re-achieved our Rainbow Tick for the fifth year in a row, not only meeting criteria but exceeding in most categories and ensuring we are a safe and welcoming workplace for rainbow community employees.
